2007 Illinois Service Rifle Championship

It was nothing but sunny skies for this year's Illinois Service Rifle championship. 41 competitors lined up at the Milan Rifle Club to find out who was the best in the state.

Conditions were good for offhand and the scores showed it with four 194 scores. Leading the way was Iowa resident Dan Wanfalt with his 194-6x. Former Illinois junior Paul Mazurski had one less X, Bill Guess was three X's down from Dan and National Guard shooter Lee Wells was in fourth with two X's. David Schrank kept close to the leaders with his 193.

Dropping down into sitting Paul was the only one to clean both strings while three shooters only dropped one point in this rapid fire event. Once we moved off the 200 yard line Mazurski was in the lead down only six points. Schrank and Wells were both within two and Guess was down three points from the leader.

The 300 yard line saw two shooters double clean. Wells and six-time Service Rifle champion John Holliger were both perfect in this event while five other competitors dropped no more than two here. Being down eight points, Wells now took the overall lead with Mazurski and Schrank two points adrift of him. Guess was down 11 and Konrad Powers and Holliger were within reach down a dozen.

600 yards would shuffle the leader board greatly. Holliger led the pack with his 198 closely followed by Powers' 197. John Lowe and Jay Krebs both had 196's. Holliger's 600 yard performance gave him the overall win by one point over Powers. Coincidentally, this was the same margin of victory between the same two shooters as last year.
